Mac Design Works, as part of the Enclos Design-assist team, faced the challenge of designing a secondary steel structure to support a modular rain-screen façade consisting of stacked drum levels with tapered shapes. The goal was to create connections that would allow for efficient installation of the massive panels from specific points.

To address this, a collaborative parametric approach was adopted involving structural engineers, a 3D parametric modeling group, and Mac Design Works. They developed a complex secondary steel frame geometry based on a constantly evolving parametric model to ensure constructability.

Frequent exchanges of the model among Enclos, the architect, and façade consultants occurred to preserve design intent while considering construction feasibility and costs. The modeling group provided rapid updates based on evaluations from all project members, enabling Mac Design Works to quickly adjust the designs accordingly.

Each structural member was unique, requiring meticulous attention to detail in the drawing packages to ensure subcontractors could understand and construct them accurately.
